Dawn Caldwell and her husband installed cameras in their home after noticing that their normally cheerful son, Craig, who has severe cerebral palsy, was suddenly showing signs of distress.

They had no idea that the nurse they had hired to care for their son was the cause until they caught it on camera. Here are seven malicious nurses caught on camera. Texas City police and state officials are investigating after a family reported that caregivers at a nursing home abused their relative and that they captured it on camera. Employees of a Texas City nursing home who were filmed abusing an elderly man now face felony charges.

Nursing homes are supposed to be safe places where elderly people receive care and support. In Texas City, however, disturbing footage revealed the opposite. What unfolded on camera at Solidago Health and Rehabilitation in October 2022 shocked both a family and the community after witnessing an elderly resident being violently abused by staff members entrusted with his care.

Sunday, October 2, 2022. 87-year-old Cornelio Selenus, who had only one leg, was left with bruises and hospitalized after an incident initially reported as an accident. The nursing home contacted his relatives and claimed he had fallen out of bed. “We saw the bruises around his eyes, and he was wearing a neck brace. So we reviewed the Ring camera footage and saw what had happened.”

But when the family reviewed video footage from a camera they had installed in his room, it turned out that Selenus hadn't simply fallen. Instead, two staff members attacked him while he was on the floor, punching, kicking, and dragging him back to his bed. The video captured everything in detail.

As soon as they put him back in the bed, a staff member drew the curtain closed around the bed, deliberately concealing the rest of the abuse from the camera. His grandson later explained that the staff remained behind this curtain for 15 to 20 minutes, and when it was opened again, Selenus was lying on the floor once more. Selenus had told his family for years that he was abused at the facility.

But his complaints had been dismissed without evidence. Out of concern, his relatives had installed a camera outside his room about a year or two earlier. The surveillance finally provided them with the proof. When they reviewed the footage after receiving a call that he was in the hospital, they saw bruises on his face and noticed that he was wearing a neck brace.

What they saw on the recording confirmed his claims. The family burst into tears when they realized their loved one had suffered abuse at the hands of those who were supposed to be his caregivers. The footage not only showed violence but also revealed how staff attempted to cover up their actions. The deliberate act of drawing the curtain before the abuse continued left the family wondering how often such incidents had occurred behind closed doors and how many other residents had likely experienced similar treatment.

Selenus' relatives expressed anger and frustration, demanding justice, charges against the staff, and the closure of the facility itself. Once the video surfaced, Solidago Health and Rehabilitation announced that the employees identified as Lisa Cooper and Casey Johnson had been suspended pending an internal investigation.

Within a few days, they were dismissed for violating company policies. In public statements, the facility declared that it would not tolerate any behavior that endangered residents and emphasized that the health and safety of its patients remained its top priority.
