MAN LOSES ALL FOUR LIMBS AFTER BEING LICKED IN THE FACE WHILE PLAYING WITH DOGS


In 2018, Greg Manteufel attended a birthday party where he spent time playing with several dogs. Just a few days later, he began experiencing a fever and weakness in his limbs, prompting him to visit a doctor. His health quickly worsened, and doctors discovered he had developed a serious blood infection caused by Capnocytophaga, a bacteria commonly found in the mouths of dogs. His condition became so critical that doctors warned his platelet count had dropped so dangerously low he had only about three hours left to live. The infection typically causes symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, headaches, and vomiting. In severe cases, however, it can lead to sepsis, septic shock, and gangrene in the limbs. To save his life, Manteufel had to undergo multiple amputations, losing his forearms, both legs, and parts of his nose. Despite the devastating outcome, he ultimately survived the infection.
