The Shooting: He retrieved a revolver from the safe, loaded it, and shot his father while he was sleeping in his bed around 3 a.m..

Initial Statements: Police reported that the child told his mother, "I killed Daddy," and told authorities during questioning that he was "mad" and "had not thought about" the consequences.

Aftermath: Douglas Dietz was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The boy was arrested and taken into custody.

Legal Status and Charges

The 11-year-old was denied bail and is being held in the Perry County Prison.

Current Status:
The boy's attorney, Dave Wilson, stated that the goal is to get the case transferred to juvenile court, which may happen after a preliminary hearing. The 11-year-old waived his preliminary hearing on Feb. 19, 2026, and remains in custody.

Case Background
